WILLOW CREEK — With exactly six months until the 100th anniversary of the Homan’s Pond Ice-Out, the centennial planning committee officially launched a $250,000 fundraising campaign Friday, asking residents and businesses to help underwrite what promises to be the largest event in town history.
The “100 for 100” campaign seeks $100,000 in corporate sponsorships, $100,000 in individual donations, and $50,000 through grant applications already submitted to state and regional foundations. As of the launch, $62,000 had been pledged, including a $25,000 commitment from Willow Creek Custom Flooring.
“This is a once-in-a-century moment for our town,” said Eleanor Vance, campaign chair. “We owe it to ourselves and to the generations who kept this tradition alive to mark it properly.”
Funds will support the centennial festival planned for April 16-18, 2027, including a Saturday concert, fireworks over Homan’s Pond, historical exhibits, and a formal Ice-Out ball at the town hall. A portion will also endow the Ice-Out commemorative book project and fund permanent improvements to the pond access area.
Arthur Pendelton encouraged town residents to contribute at any level. “No gift is too small,” Pendelton said. “This is an investment in Willow Creek’s identity and its future.”
Donations can be made at the town office, the General Store, or online through a dedicated fundraising portal. The campaign will run through March 1, 2027, with progress updates posted monthly at the library and on the town website.
